One of the most popular software to date is WordPress. Do you have a WordPress site? Wonderful! Now what do you do with it?
On the left hand side of your dashboard, you will see Posts and Pages. (See illustration on the left) Pages are the static part of your site that will remain the same, like the About Us page, the Contact Us page, etc. Posts are your blog posts that will be an ongoing list of what you post. Usually the most recent post will appear first. My tutorials section is an example of a blog. The rest of my site are static pages created in WordPress.
This tutorial will show you how to post to your blog and add images. If you have any trouble, let me know and I will try to clarify it for you.
Adding A New Post

Click on “Post” and then “Add New” to start a new post. Then put your title in the top section.

You will see a number of tools for editing and formatting your post on the top of the editing box. This is similar to what you may have seen when sending email or working in Word. You can hover your mouse over an icon to see a tool tip that will tell you what it is. On the far right, the icon indicated by the arrow in the image above is your “kitchen sink”. If you click on that button, more formatting options will be shown, as in the image below.

The icon that I have highlighted allows you to paste text from Word into your post. This is useful if you choose to set up your posts using Microsoft Word, and then when you have it the way that you like it, to paste it in, with the same formatting. However, it does not paste in the images. For that, you have to insert the images in WordPress.
So type or paste your text, and use the tools in WordPress to format and tweak the post as you desire.
Adding Images

We will now show you how to add images to your post. On top of your tools, you will see a series of icons after the workds Upload/Insert, and the one on the left hand side is to Add an Image. Click on that icon.

The image above shows the popup box for inserting an image. Make sure the tab “From Computer” is selected. The click on the button to “Select Files”. Select the image that you want from your computer and upload it.

There are a number of things to add in to the next box which you will see above. Put in the title of the image, the alternative text, for search engines and those who are visually impaired. Remember, search engines do not see images, they see text, and this is what you are adding. If you want a caption under the image, you can add it, as well as a description of the picture.
If you want people to be able to click on the image and see a full sized version of the picture, then you can leave the link in the next box, or click the button for “None” for this option to be disabled.
The next line is Alignment. If you want no alignment of your text in relation to the image, then select None. Or select one of the other buttons. The first image in this post is “Align Left” where the image is on the left and the text is to the right of the image.
The next line is Size. Select the size that you want.
Next, click “Insert into Post”. Your image will be inserted. If you decide that you do not want the image, or want to edit your choices, click on the image. You will be given the option to “Edit” or “Delete” the image.
Publishing Your Post
Now that the post is complete, we will now prepare to publish the post. On the right hand side, you will see a Categories box. The example on the left has one category, which is “Uncategorized”. You may add categories in the Link section on the Dashboard. Select the category that you want.

Then go to the Publish box (seen above). You can either choose to save the post as a draft, to publish later, or Preview the post to see what it will actually look like after it is published. When you are ready for your post to “go live” then hit the Publish button. You will be able to view your post on your website!
